30th June 2007. National Stadium going… going… gone (See slideshow).

Among those of us fortunate to see it go, were Kenneth, Herryanto, and Leonard.

Since there wasn’t a predefined flickr tag for our national stadium closing ceremony, we can thank Flickr’s tag clustering algorithm for approximating relative photos as seen here.

Aside: Been busy. Slowly sorting life back together online before I go too.

  1. Nice set of photos dude. I am sure it must be an emotional farewell of sorts for those sports men and women. I used to train at the National Stadium about 16 years ago (gawd I am old!) when I was part of the SAFSA Dragon Boat Team. There is nothing more adrenaline pumping than running around the track, doing push ups and doing intervals at that place. The gym which we used for medicine ball throwing and weights was quite different then, without any air conditioning. Of course, it was a treat now and then to see national athletes training beside us, and it boosted our morale too!

  2. Walter, my best experience came back in ’99 or 2000 during NDP where my recon unit was assigned to design, construct and drive tongkahs (traditional bum boats with fish eyes). We built them from golf carts using wood panels and the resulting floats were masterpieces. On the day itself, the stadium lights would dim and our tongkahs would light up with children on the back. It’s amazing because when I waved at the girls around the stadium, they’d all scream. I felt like Elvis for that moment. čśŤ

  3. Hi Kelvin, I agreed with Walter that you have a nice set of photographs here. Many thanks for dropping by my blog and linking me here.

    Have a nice weekend! čÖé
