Carole Ann has been a great Educational Technology Center (ETC) director and anyone can tell just by how much ETC has changed since she took the helm. As Chris Barr once mentioned, “She’s the first boss I really respected, simply because she never fails to impress me”.

Over the course of about three years, she’s turned ETC from a quiet computer center in the library, to a high traffic one-stop-shop for everything academia + technology for UB faculty and staff. We’ll be sad to see her go, but we know she’s destined for greater things!

Besides enjoying lots of food and drinks, we spent last friday evening running movie-nite in the conference room. We screened the 1957 American Classic, Desk Set, which appropriately features witty reference librarians, geeky engineers and the fear of computers (aka electronic brains) taking over office workers. Really awesome movie with great script… gotta love the euphemisms!

  1. Oops! She was headhunted by the Mellon Foundation as the ARTstor Director of Strategic Outreach and User Services. Her base of operations will be New York City; her territory will be the world. ETC has been involved in the Artstor project and they do pretty massive digital archiving of art around the world… more info at
