Over the weekend, I baked my first Lemon Bars. Penny and I love the ones that Wegmans makes and so I decided to try making a batch on my own to save money and have fun at the same time. Both of us think that baking is hard, since timing and heat consistency are critical to making something edible. Although the top was rightfully browned (think creme brulee), it didn’t look as good as I’d like. Still, it sure tasted right… the lemon filling was so tarty, you could feel it running down your throat. The crust was on the edge of being burnt, but because there was sugar in it, you could see and chew on the caramelized texture which was a bonus delight. Hopefully I can keep this up so while Penny cooks, I could be the better half by making desserts to compliment her wonderful dishes.
