Video: Hill & Knowlton’s Ben Koe on “PR in Online Communities”

Hill & Knowlton Senior Associate and New Media Specialist, Benjamin Koe, shares his experience in helping clients communicate effectively through online communities.

Ben was invited as a guest speaker to my “COM125: Intro to Internet” class where he addressed 75 communication students, at the University at Buffalo programme in the Singapore Institute of Management.

Through his talk, Ben highlights some of the prominent web communities unique to our region, such as the CozyCot forum, SGspree (a livejournal community), HardwareZone, HungryGoWhere, as well as global communities such as Wikipedia (see his Singapore Garden Festival entry) and even show examples of branding in Second Life (e.g. IBM, Adidas, ALOFT concept hotel).

Benjamin is one of the Media Socialists and I’ve had interesting conversations with him on his social media approach in public relations.

  • How so Ivan? As guest speakers?
  • Hi Kevin, sounds like what Razzie suggested could be demonstrated by what Siva and Lekowala did with this.
  • it seem like there is time for one more guest lecture, so why not?

i think someone from the industry that has combined web2.0 with the real world (like ben koe) or something to do with gaming?

    what do you think? :D
  • No problem Razzle. Should I bring in more guest lectures? If so, what would you like to see?
  • Hey hey,

i was really interested in what he had to say about using blogs, and online communities to do PR and guess what i found??

i don't know whether this is a PR gimmick or a real blog though. if you know about the new jack neo's movie, "just follow law" which was starring gurmit singh and fann wong, there is a character laocharbo, and this is her blog.

i seriously laughed a lot when i saw this!!

    wow!

but seriously, thank you for inviting Benjamin to come and give us this talk, i really learnt a lot.
