Today’s Links: Is Second Life actually Web 3.0 in disguise?

Posing for Spring 2007
If you’ve read my del.icio.us links diligently, you’d know that global warming is getting more sever. Also in the news is the spread of H5N1 (bird flu virus) which has made confirmed human kills. For Spring 2007, this will be my dress code… death in a Neon Evangelion plug suit.

They did mention that for the next 36hrs it will be sub zero here... So frostbite is very possible here.
  • Man.... I did download Second Life and played with it a little but somehow couldn't find the time. I guess blogging and commenting on other blogs appealed more to me at the ripe old age of 36!

By the way, I have just blogged a half serious/ half tongue in cheek piece about the environment and its impact on Singapore. Do check it out especially if you are a Julian Lennon fan:

  • nuMetal: For once you're actually dead-serious. Must be the Buffalo cold... I heard that some States experienced wind-chills of -43 degree Fahrenheits!

Very unlikely that SL will be Web3.0 but it may be close. The interface will be interesting... to be able to experience different sites in a SL way... But sometimes, just like real shopping, there are some times when you don't want to meet people. So maybe invisible mode in SL would be nice... I don't use SL too much so maybe there is already that function.
  • Straydog: Haha, I do find Second Life too inaccessible to be considered a platform for the future. Perhaps we'll see lighter version of it, then perhaps it's considerable.
  • IMHO, no. For social maybe, but for the rest we might have to wait till Web 5.0 or later.
