“Yesterday I was talking with Amanda Congdon, one of the co-founders of Rocketboom. Her videoblog is now seeing about 300,000 viewers a day. That’s, what, a year or so old? Did you know that advertisers are now paying her $85,000 per week? That’s almost as much money as I made in an entire year of working at Microsoft.”
Robert Scoble mentioned this when he recently announced that he was resigning from Microsoft to join Silicon Valley startup PodTech.net (Woah!).
In revealing how this popular videoblogging duo is now drawing big checks, Scoble likewise believes strongly in the future of PodTech.net, which is uniquely positioned as a “podcast content creation” entity. It’s unique because most of the other podcasting services today are focused on podcast delivery technology, and not content creation. He’s pretty confident that there’s “a huge growth in the distribution channel for podcasts coming”, so he’s going there before it blows wide open.
I see that PodTech.net is currently promoting corporate podcasts, which leaves people like us still plenty of room to own a slice of this growing trend. If you haven’t started, perhaps now’s a good time to start podcasting / videocasting. If I had my way, I’d think that the weirder, the better!
UPDATE: A bunch of us bloggers are trying to figure out where Rocketboom’s mysterious advertising is. Read the comments…
